How does EHR make a Physician’s Life Easy?

An Electronic Health record is a computer software, which records detailed information of the patients individually. Each patient’s record can be sorted out and is available whenever required.

An EHR includes entire data of patients that is much more detailed than a patient’s file. It includes demographics, family history, medical history, medication and allergies, vital signs, immunization status, referrals, laboratory test results, radiology images, social history inclusive of smoking status, personal stats like age and weight, and billing information.  The information being taken at each visit can be put to records with date that makes the records more comprehensive and detailed.

Additionally, it also enables patients to watch their own medical records through Patient Portal. The Physician is able to restrict certain information from patients if required. The restricted information may vary from patient to patient. This is how, instead of inquiring a doctor each time, patients can login to an EHR and can watch the required details. It would save both the physician’s and patient’s time.

Previously when the providers weren’t using Electronic Health records, the patients' records were being maintained manually. A separate record room was required to keep the files of all the patients. Also, it was a hassle to manage each and every file and for that additional staff was required that was certainly an additional pressure on any practice.

With EHR, sorting data is no more a problem. Technology has facilitated the provider so much that even if a patient visits after twenty years to a physician, the whole record can be sorted with few clicks.

The provider can access the data anywhere any time. Along with that, it fulfills patient’s privacy better than file system since the data can only be sorted by authorized users.

An EHR is a complete solution for the providers as it is very comprehensive in itself.  Practices can refer a patient to another provider very easily and can transfer the data. Messages can be left for the staff to be followed. It facilitates the physicians with alerts if they have to set certain for some specific patients. All the appointments are scheduled as per the available time and can be set for upcoming days as well.

Therefore, the data and work with an EHR gets more organized and structured that certainly helps the provider. With electronic health record system, a physician is capable to focus a patient’s health in much better way which enhances patient’s care resultantly.
